Borghese Gallery tour

In the heart and greenery of the immense park of Villa Borghese, we can admire the magnificent Borghese Gallery.

We are at the end of the fifteenth century, when a wealthy family from Siena, the Borghese family, acquired this immense territory near Rome North. So, they start an important construction works including the construction of a grandiose villa within the park itself.

The villa, whose architecture is inspired by Villa Medici and Villa Farnesina, became a museum in 1902, following the acquisition by the Italian state.

This treasure chest full of history houses exceptional works by important authors such as Titian, Raphael, Rubens, as well as by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Caravaggio.

If today we can admire these works of inestimable value, we owe it to Cardinal Scipione, nephew of Pope Paul V, who had such an unbridled passion for art, to the point that it can be said that with him the concept of collector was born.

During our guided tour we will focus on the work that can be considered the symbol of the Gallery: the neoclassical sculpture by Paolina Borghese, created by Antonio Canova. We will also be able to admire Bernini’s most important and spectacular works, including the Apollo and Daphne, the Rape of Proserpina, the David, as well as the famous paintings by Caravaggio.
